Do you know the advantages of biodegradable lunch boxes?

China’s “Strictest Plastic Restriction Order in History” has been implemented for nearly two years. The “Opinions on Further Strengthening Plastic Pollution Control” (hereinafter referred to as the “Plastic Restriction Order”) issued in January 2020 prohibits or restricts the production and sales of products including disposable plastic shopping bags, tableware, etc., and formulates extremely ambitious policies. For example, some single-use plastic products need to be completely withdrawn from the market in less than a year. Therefore, like our company, it is also transformed into degradable products for production and manufacturing. Like our degradable lunch boxes, degradable plastic bags are also gradually promoted in the market.

The rapid elimination of a large number of disposable non-degradable plastic products has led to a rapid increase in the production capacity of substitutes in a short period of time. Among them, biodegradable plastics are particularly eye-catching. Weng Yunxuan, a professor of polymer chemistry at Beijing Technology and Business University, predicts that by 2025, the annual production capacity of China’s two main biodegradable plastic varieties, PBAT and PLA, will increase from about 300,000 tons and 100,000 tons in 2020 to about 7 million tons and 100,000 tons respectively. More than 1 million tons, reaching more than two-thirds of the global production capacity. However, a few months ago, in the “14th Five-Year Plan” Plastic Pollution Control Action Plan issued by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the number of pages involving biodegradable plastics was significantly reduced. The policy did not require the promotion of such products, but emphasized It is necessary to study the impact of degradable plastics, standardize the application fields, and clearly propose to prevent the blind expansion of production capacity.
