Can disposable lunch boxes be heated in the microwave?

In the era of the popularity of takeaway, we will inevitably come into contact with a lot of disposable lunch boxes. We will also choose to pack and take away the leftovers after eating out. We will use actions to practice CD-ROM actions, and some problems will follow. Can the disposable lunch box be heated in the microwave? Let’s follow Kang Xin’s editor to take a look.

1. What kind of packing box do you use?

Let’s start with the common plastic packaging boxes on the market. Look carefully at the plastic lunch box, on the lid or bottom, you will find a numbered logo. In fact, this is an internationally accepted classification of plastics, and different numbers indicate plastics of different materials.

Common packaging boxes on the market mainly use 3 kinds of materials, namely No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6:

No. 1 polyethylene terephthalate (PET): plastic bottles for mineral water, juice, and carbonated drinks are made of it;

No. 5 polypropylene (PP): good heat resistance, it is often used in plastic utensils that can be heated in microwave ovens;

No. 6 polystyrene (PS): It is used in many milk tea cup lids;

It is generally safe to pack food in plastic lunch boxes/disposable lunch boxes of these materials.

2. Can the disposable lunch box be put into the microwave oven?

It is safe to pack food, but it does not mean that it is also safe to heat. In these plastic to-go boxes, only No. 5 plastic polypropylene (PP) can go in the microwave.

Polypropylene (PP) is relatively heat-resistant and can withstand a high temperature of about 200 ℃, so it can be heated by microwaves, and repeated heating will not cause any major problems. The heat resistance of other plastics is much worse. Do not heat directly, and do not put too hot food. Of course, it cannot be used repeatedly.

If you are too lazy to look at the label, or you are still worried, then to be on the safe side, pour the packaged meals on a plate or bowl first, and then heat them in a microwave.
